Beggers cannot be choosers is an old saying. This is the sorry state of affairs of the Communists. If one is incapable, at best they can refrain from disturbing public transports causing immeasurable inconvenience to all and sundry. If they are really bothered about public and are serious about petrol hike their immediate option is to withdraw their support to Congress. If they want to inform the public about their opposition to this hike they can conduct public meetings and inform the layman that inspite of their opposition the government has hiked petrol and gas prices. Callling for a bandh is nothing but adding fuel to the fire as the public is already upset over the huge hike in LPG price. The highest court of the country has already given its verdict on calling bandhs. (In some States it is christened as hartal - nor bandh ! ) It is the duty of the government to respect the verdict and maintain law and order and see to it that the bandhs cause least disturbance and discomfort to the public. Let us hope better sense prevails in the minds of pseudo politicians. There must be deterrent punishment to the political party which calls for bandh. This must be in the form of ban to contest elections. Election Commission shall be vested with powers like SEBI to vet election manifesto (like vetting prospectus by SEBI) and all parties shall be made to file election declaration to the Commission which shall contain on how many times the party has called for bandh, how many candidates they have fielded in elections who are having pending cases against them, comparative net worth for the past 10 years (year war) of the candidates. The complete format can be finalised with the help of many stalwarts in this line, ideas and suggestions from consumer and social organisations and public. No person who has not filed his latest Income tax and Wealth tax return shall be allowed to contest in an election. It shall be made compulsory to file their balance sheet. Public shall have access to their case history, income tax and wealth tax returns and their balance sheet. At every polling booth the net worth, Income, number of cases against shall be displayed against every candidate in local language in sufficiently large fonts for the public to read and decide. Transparancy alone can bring good governance and help the public to elect good people. Only persons with real patriotism and concern for good governance can bring such regulations. All that we conceive are achievable. Let us dream and hope that such person takes charge of Indian administration.
