A decade back exhibitions are annual events especially during festival days. Mostly these exhibitions are conducted by governments. But times have changed. No month passes without an exhibition and it has become the order of the day. Entry is free for most of the present day exhibitions. Big advertisements in newspapers, TVs, flash banners, cable TVs etc are given for this which attracts huge crowd.
Many families spend their week ends by visiting these places. But imagine the plight of a middleclass family which visits an exhibition thinking that there is no entrance fee but comes to know of this only when they enter the venue. This is especially so when the venue is at a remote place where there is no public transport and necessarily one has to go by an auto or call taxi. Thinking that there may not be many visitors, the organisors of these exhibitions avoid mentioning the entry fee in their advertisements which puts the public in an embarassing position when they visit the venue with family and friends. In all fairness public should know whether entry to a trade fair / exhibition is free or with fee.
One such exhibition is going to be conducted at Coimbatore by a daily which publishes flowery articles. Every page of that daily carries colourful advertisement about the trade fair. But nowhere there is mention about any entrance fees. Actually there is entrance fees for this. What is wrong in making it transparant that there is entrance fee for the trade fair. Is this fair? The daily is noted for its straightforwardness. Probably these advesrtisements have not been vetted by the management. Let us hope this daily is sincere to the public and transparant in their advertisements.
