Free the Left

Author: Corporate Cat | Files under Traffic sense

While driving, many times when you want to take a left turn you would have noticed  many vehicles blocking the road on the left side.  This makes you to wait till the green signal eventhough it is a free left area. This creates unwanted congestion and affects free flow of traffic.

It is true that traffic department demarkates this area on the left with proper mark. But what is the use. The public is not aware of its usage and importance and they continue to occupy the left portion of the road meant for left turners thereby causing traffic jam. This must be avoided by properly educating the road users initially and by charging them after the education period is over.

Many simple road rules like this shall not be ignored and shall be given topmost priority. These small rules have not been given due importance by the traffic department probably they are of the opinion that this is very simple and everybody knows it.  But the fact is that public are not aware of these simple rules.

Let us expect the traffic department include this also in their education campaign on road usage so that the users leave the left free for  left turners.

Also, many places are there which will be indicate freeleft but there will be no lane marking so that traffic moving left have to move to that lane and traffic proceeding straight should avoid using it. This is the fault of both traffic department and public.
