Gujjars’ issue

Author: Corporate Cat | Files under Politics

Indian politicians are capable of promising anything to get votes. They are even more capable in not fulfillilng the promise and in winning the next election. But those days are all gone. Now the voters expect the fulfilment of promise even before they go to polling station. As per election ethics,  government is not supposed to announce any new government schemes after the election is announced. When this is the case many political parties announce freebies in their election manifesto. This is not banned by the Election Commission. One such election promise is inclusion of Gujjar Community as Scheduled Caste. The BJP government fought the election with the above promise. But now it has not taken sufficient efforts to fulfil the promise. This has resulted in Gujjars’ agitation which has caused severe damage to public transport, properties, deaths of innocent public etc.  It is natural to get agitated due to non fulfilment of promise by political parties. But public properties and public should not be a target.  This type of agitation should be nipped in the bud and shall not be allowed to recur again.  Government should handle this with iron hand. Nobody has got any right to damage public property. POTA like Act should be passed to prevent such things to happen. Now technology is in an advanced growth path. With this it is very easy to identify the culprits. Once this is done the persons who create damage to public property shall be made liable to compensate the government. Their personal properties should be attached with no questions asked. Besides they should be imprisoned for at least five years. Only because there is no punishment, these anti social elements are taking the innocent public and the government for a ride.  Government should not bother about votes. They are in power to provide the public with peaceful life.

Now coming back to reservation. What is the objective of reservation? To provide a level playing ground for the underprivileged and depressed.  To get rid of untouchability.  To remove from their minds the inferiority complex.  Hence it is the duty of the government to provide the underprivileged and depressed with basic education, health and sanitation so that they can improve their standard and be a normal citizen.  Beyond a certain level this should not be encouraged. After a certain stage they have to fight for their places in higher education, employment etc. Then only the quality can be maintained. We have hundreds of political parties. All of them cannot rule. We have thousands of species in roses. Every specie has got a speciality in smell, colour etc. We have several breeds of dogs. But in police department only labrador or alsation or doberman is taken into service. What will happen if pomeranian and terriors are put into police service.  We speak about twin tumbler system in certain places. What happens in a corporate office. The tea cups used for different category of management or employees are of different quality. This is being followed even in government offices. There are thousands of varieties of snakes. Can u compare King Cobra to a rat snake?. Take for example banana. There are hundreds of varieties. Each one has got a different taste and different nutriants. Similarly Mango. Alphonso is different from Banganapalle.   Leave alone all these things.  Why there is red light for a VIP car when all are equal? Take Tamil Language. Is this the same everywhere? Tamil spoken in Coimbatore is spoken differently  in Chennai, Madurai etc. Which is good which is bad? It is difficult to say. All are good and should be enjoyed.  Take horse racing. There are horses whose breed is two hundred years, three hundred years old. They are being maintained even now for its sheer racing abilities. Can you bring reservation there? Let us take the life style of our  politicians. Why these people are wearing foreign cloth, foreign electronic gadgets, foreign cars. Why don’t you bring reservation for use of Khadi cloth, ambassador car, BSNL phones etc being Indian goods.  I am only trying to bring the hypocrisy of the people supporting reservation.

After nearly half a century of reservation what have we achieved? Have we really achieved anything?  Certainly nothing. Simply compare the number of castes when reservation was started with the number now. Only the number of castes have gone up. People have started to believe that only when their caste is included in the Schedule they can get employment and other benefits.  This has resulted in Gujjar like agitation and has taken many lives and has caused severe damage to public properties.  For this only our politicians are to be blamed. People really afraid of talking this fact fearing that they will be misunderstood. But one has to face the hard realities of life.

What is to be done?  God has created several species of plants, insects, animals, birds and human beings and each and every specie has got a gene which is blessed with its own speciality. Never ever try to change that. This will end only in chaos.  Instead spend all money and time  to educate everybody ( especially our politicians) to respect each other irrespective of their religion and caste (even party !), to respect every human being as a human being. Stop playing this petty caste politics.  Let us learn not to interfere in other religion or caste affairs. Every religion or caste has their own rules and regulations. Allow them to enjoy this. Don’t try to disturb this. Only when you tinker with this,  problem arises and becomes a religious or caste clash at a  later date.   At this juncture I would like to place on record my  appreciation to Ms Jayalalitha who broke the hoodoo that only a candidate from Muslim community will win in Vaniambadi, Tamil Nadu. She fielded a candidate from Hindu Community against Mr. Nahoor Hanifa a very famous muslim singer personally selected by Mr.Karunanidhi. The Muslim Community there voted the Hindu to power. This goes to show religion is immaterial. It is only the expectation of good governance that is material.  Another politician who is to be appreciated is Mr.Vijaykanth who contested in Vanniars belt (Vriddhachalam) which is considered to be PMK stronghold and won the election without any alignment with any party. Moral of these history - people vote for good governance - caste or religion is immaterial.   We should encourage only politicians who do not owe their allegiance to particular religion or caste if at all we really want good governance.

So long as we close our ears to this sensitive reservation issue,  more Gujjar like agitations are bound to follow and we may have to pay a very high price for that. The earlier we realise this, it is better.
