India’s victory over the world champions Australia at Mohali is historic on several counts. First this record breaking victory is a biggest one in terms of runs. India won by a margin of 320 runs. Second this test has become an unforgettable one as Sachin Tendulkar scaled the peak called Mount Lara and became the highest run getter in test cricket. Third dada Sourav Ganguly proved once again that he is still a phoenix who cannot be written off, by scoring a brilliant strokeful century. Of course he has already announced his retirement.
This test match has exposed the potential of debutant Mishra who was instrumental in routing the Aussies in the first Innings by grabbing 5 wickets and finished the match with 7 wickets. A perfect replacement for Kumble?
Last but not the least. What a player he is. Whether before the stumps as a batsman or behind the stumps as a wicket keeper or around the stumps as a captain Dhoni is omnipotent. His decision not to enforce follow on to Aussies is a prudent and winning decision. He handled the bowlers in an intelligent way and the way in which he batted has once again proved that he is a real champ.
Zaheer Khan could have kept his mouth under control while Hayden was going out. But this is part and parcel of the game. It is better if it is within the permissible limits. As a bowler Zaheer played his role perfectly and was torturing the Aussies and ripped their tail in the second innings.
On the whole it was a wonderful test for India on many counts which will linger in the minds of sportslovers for many many years. Our congratulations and best wishes to Dhoni and his MEN.
