Tamilnadu is reeling under powercuts. Nobody knows when the power will come and when it will go. This is in spite of schedules announced by the government. Such an erratic power supply has not been witnessed during the past 50 years. Every person/family irrespective of their allegiance to any political party are cursing the government for their inability to supply continuous power supply or to stick on to their power cut schedules. Nobody could plan anything whether it is office, educational institution, hospital, industry, petty shop or residence.
Crores of Tamilians living in Tamil Nadu are undergoing this ordeal for several months. Instead of attending to this, the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister has found out an innovative idea to sidetrack this issue by taking up Srilanka problem, a problem which belongs to a neighbouring country and a problem relating to a terrorist organisation which is banned by the Indian Government.
He has fixed two weeks deadline to Indian government (!) and has threatened that all MPs from Tamil Nadu will resign from the parliament. One Rajyasabha MP, Ms Kanimozhi, from DMK has immediately swung into action by submitting her resignation ( probably to force Dr Anbumani to follow suit ?), not to Rajya Sabha speaker but to the DMK supremo. All these announcements have come at a timewhen Lok Sabha elections are only a few months away. Instead, Karunanidhi could have asked for the concerned ministerial portfolios (defence, home etc….), as he did earlier immediately after parliament elections, and could have swung into action to save Tamils in Srilanka.
Instead of threatening the government like this, Karunanidhi could have clearly spelt out what exactly he wants the Central Government to do so that Congress ( as well as the public ) is clear about his expectations.
Whatever CM (of any party) says immediately cineworld responds by announcing their solidarity for the cause ( this media is used only for crowd pulling). Usually this is followed by either fasting or procession and ends up in bandh ( you can give any other name if you fear contempt petition) and unwanted war of words creating hardship to common man.
By the time we read the above five paragraphs we have forgotton the power problem and CM’s trick has worked. Tamil Nadu government has started attending to a POWER problem of a neighbouring country.
There cannot be a second opinion that innocent lives should not be at threat. But politicians should not thrive on other’s problem. Please look into the problem at home for which you have been voted to power. Please don’t take international issues to sidetrack the main issue locally. Solve the local issues first. Then we can think globally.
