Time and again Tamil Nadu Chief minister M.Karunanidhi is issuing statements that he is not bothered about his government and prepared to forgo ministerial post for the sake of Srilankan Tamils. Once he even gave an ultimatum to the Central Government and obtained resignation letters from all DMK members of parliament. This drama lasted for a few days. He went to Delhi and met Congress high command to pressurise the Central government ( probably Dr Manmohan Singh’s heart problem is due to this !). Again DMK has made a final appeal to the Centre by passing a resolution to ask the Centre to take steps to stop war in Sri Lanka forthwith.
This time Karunanidhi is silent on action that will be taken in the event of Centre ignoring the resolution of the State Assembly. He doesn’t want to be a laughing stock once again.
A few days back PMK leader has recommended an agitation which will bring entire Tamil Nadu to standstill. His recommendations include complete stoppage of Train, bus and other means of transport which will bring the entire State to a grinding halt. He even expressed his wish that this strike and stoppage shall continue for more than five days. He is of the opinion that this will solve Srilankan issue!
According to Peter Alphonse, Congress MLA, Srilankan problem cannot be solved without the help of Congress. But has not divulged Congress moves at present to solve the issue.
On his part Thirumavalavan went on fast for this issue. This has resulted only in burning of buses and damage to other public properties.
Cine world also had their share on this issue. They conducted fast which also resulted in arrest of a few persons due to their open support to LTTE. Certain actors also went on fast in their individual capacity in support of this issue.

But everybody has forgotton one thing. In a war it is certain that civilians will also die. It is very difficult for an army to distinguish civilians and the solidiers. Normally it is the pratice that civilian areas are not bombed. When civilians are used as a shield nobody can save the civilians. LTTE, it is widely believed, is using civilians as shield. This results in more civilian deaths.
All the above leaders, if they are really worried about massacre of Tamils in Srilanka, should appeal to LTTE supremo Prabakaran not to use the civilians as shield. Whether they are used as shield or not, what is wrong in making an appeal to LTTE. None of the leaders have done this so far.
Secondly this is an internal war between Sri Lankan army and LTTE in which India cannot poke its nose. Will we keep quiet if some neighbouring country intervenes in Kashmir problem or in our investigation on Mumbai Terrorist attack. How Tamil Nadu politicians are expecting Indian Government to take action against Sri Lankan army which is waging a war against a world reknown terrorist organisation. This is nothing short of nonsense.
A DMK leader never dares to attend marriage function of ADMK leader family and vice versa. If they do so they may be removed from party post or even from the party. This is the situation that is prevailing in Tamil Nadu. Are they not Tamilians? Here for a small opinion poll three Tamilians were murdered and a press looted. Petty party politics have taken toll of several party leaders life in Tamil Nadu. Are they not tamilians?
Thirdly India has paid a heavy price in the form of Rajiv assasination by the LTTE. Its supremo is a person who is wanted in the murder case and is the first accused.
Fourthly this issue has resulted in number of bandhs, arrests, hooliganism, burning of trains, buses and damage to public properties causing irreparable inconvenience to the public in general and Tamilians in particular for the past quarter century or so.
The only option open to these politicians is to lead their party workers to Sri Lanka and to fight out the Srilankan army. It is highly impossible for them to do this because government chair of power is most important to them than any other thing. They won’t resort to this at the cost of power.
Eventhough the entire Tamil Nadu politicians are raising their voice against Srilankan army the only leader from Tamil Nadu who talked with sense is ADMK supremo Jayalalitha. Time and again she is cautioning those who are supporting LTTE that it is a terrorist organisation which has killed many leaders in India and Sri lanka and that it is banned organisation in several countries. She has also spoken the reality that in any war civilian death is a common factor. There is no escape from this. Also she has been correctly maintaining that India cannot interfere in Srilanka’s internal issue. One has to appreciate Jayalalitha for her boldness and consistency in opposing LTTE knowing fully well that this opposition is a known threat to her life.
Let Tamil Nadu politicians keep away from Srilankan politics and concentrate on the local issues and serve the Tamils here before raising their voice for the sake of citizens of neighouring countries. Let there not be any bandh, strike, fast, human chain etc which disrupts public life. We had enough of this.
Let us spend our precious time on attending to genuine needs of Tamilians here and do justice for the oath which we have taken to abide by the constitution of India and to take all efforts to save it. Jai Hind
