In response to public and media opposition the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu has informed the assembly that he does not have any intention of demolishing ‘Vivekanandar Illam’. Crores of Indians especially the younger generation profusely thank the Chief Minister for his announcement. He could have stopped with this. Being a person who wrote ‘Kuraloviyam’ he knows the Thirukkural couplet “Inia ulavaga Innadu kooral kaniyiruppa kai kavarthartu” meaning thereby when you have good words using bad ones tantamount to eating unripe fruit when you have ripe fruit. It is out of place to make comments on Swamy Vivekananda about his eating non vegetarian food and smoking. This is purely personal. A person occupying the highest seat in the State and the one who is highly respected in the Country ought not to have uttered such words. Old habits die hard.
